We had a mother, daughter team come and talk with us about how and where our planning can include Maori.  It was interesting to note that the planning needs to be connected to children's experiences and that there are a number of resources to achieve this.  I felt that the message was that extra planning needn't happen but making connection in our planning and 'normalizing' Te Reo in the class / school is an essential way to include Maori for the children.

We needed to build our "Whare of Learning" using the texts that we had shared in our discussion with Mere,  where we all studied a resource and shared our findings.Our second session with Mere was to explore the resources available to support Te Reo in the classroom and the relevance or suitability of each resource.  We also made connections to the official documents that support Te Reo language teaching and especially for teachers like myself who are learning with the students.
I have begun by using Massam texts from the school journals. We then found poi to connect with the text.
